Quranic Ecological Society, KA Nizami Centre for Quran Studies Promotes Environmental Awareness during Ramadan

Aligarh: The Quranic Ecological Society at the K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies (KANCQS), AMU, organised two programs – a Table Talk and a Speech Competition – on the theme “Environmental Benefits of Ramadan.”

Students, research scholars, and faculty from KANCQS, along with participants from the Departments of Theology, English, and Sociology, engaged in meaningful discussions on the environmental significance of the holy month.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Teacher In-charge of the Society, highlighted how Ramadan promotes sustainability by promoting mindful consumption. The Table Talk explored how fasting reduces food and water wastage, how acts of Sadaqah and Fitrah lower individual carbon footprints. The discussion concluded with the recognition that tree-planting as Sadaqah-e-Jariyah during Ramadan contributes to long-term environmental conservation.

Following the discussion, a Speech Competition allowed participants to articulate their views on the intrinsic harmony between Ramadan and ecological responsibility. Speeches highlighted both spiritual and practical dimensions of environmental consciousness during fasting. Winners were adjudicated through a peer-review system on Google Forms, ensuring a fair evaluation process.

The winners of the competition: The First Prize was shared between Mrs. S.M. Mobashshir and Husain Ahmad; Second Prize was won by Iqra Qamaruddin and Third Prize was given to Naziya Khatoon.

Dr. Arshad Iqbal, Assistant Professor at KANCQS, emphasised the importance of integrating environmental discourse with Quranic teachings. He announced that the prize distribution ceremony will be held soon, with Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Honorary Director of KANCQS, presenting the awards.

The event was organised by student coordinators S.M. Mobashshir and Ms. Shahin Fatima and conducted by Husain Ahmad Amini.
