Arrival of ‘Miya’ Group in Bordumsa Sparks Tensions

Itanagar: Tensions have risen in Bordumsa, Arunachal Pradesh, after around 50 individuals identified locally as ‘Miya’ people arrived in a night super bus. The bus, bearing registration number AS 01 FC 6427, was intercepted at the entry point and turned back by local organisations. The group has since been held near the Burhidihing Reserve Forest at Brahmajan.

According to residents, the individuals are suspected to be displaced persons from eviction drives in parts of Assam. They are believed to belong to Morigaon and Nagaon districts. Some reports suggest they were being brought to work in brick kilns in Arunachal, though none could confirm their employer or final destination.

Local organisations expressed concern about the sudden arrival and demanded immediate verification of documents. Indigenous communities in Bordumsa and nearby Pengeri fear demographic shifts in the border region and have called on authorities to act quickly.

Reports also allege that the group’s movement was facilitated by two individuals, identified as Babar from Morigaon and Nagar from Arunachal Pradesh. Their role is being closely examined.

The incident has revived long-standing debates about migration and settlement patterns in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Community leaders say that unchecked arrivals risk creating tensions in sensitive border areas. The administration has been urged to clarify the legal status of the group and prevent similar incidents in the future.
