Hyderabad: Dr. Mohammed Safiullah has assumed charge as Director and Secretary of the Telangana Urdu Academy. He joined the post on deputation from Telangana State Power Generation Corporation, where he was serving as Deputy Secretary in the Administration wing.

Dr. Safiullah brings with him administrative experience in minority welfare institutions. He previously served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana State Waqf Board from March to October 2021. His tenure there gave him exposure to policy implementation and on-ground operations in the field of minority welfare.

As the new head of the Urdu Academy, Dr. Safiullah is expected to strengthen the promotion of Urdu language, literature, and cultural initiatives across Telangana. His appointment reflects the government’s focus on empowering institutions that play a role in cultural development and in advancing the welfare of minorities.

The Telangana Urdu Academy has long served as a hub for Urdu promotion, running programs, publications, and cultural activities. With new leadership in place, expectations are high for more initiatives that encourage linguistic growth and preserve the rich heritage associated with Urdu.

Dr. Safiullah’s blend of administrative skills and experience in minority-focused institutions positions him to lead the Academy in meeting its objectives. Observers see his appointment as a move that will help ensure stronger institutional support for Urdu in the state.
