New Delhi: In a powerful lecture delivered at Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, noted physician, author, and Islamic scholar Dr. Javed Jameel spoke on the theme “Solution of Modern-Day Problems in the Light of Islam,” urging Muslims to present Islam as a proactive and comprehensive alternative to the crises of the modern world.
Dr. Jameel reminded the audience that the Qur’an was revealed to guide humanity from darkness to light. He stressed that darkness represents the absence of divine guidance, and the failure to spread the Qur’an’s transformative message has left humanity vulnerable to disbelief, exploitation, and unrestrained materialism.
He emphasized that Islam is a universal system for all humanity, not confined to Muslims. The Qur’an, he said, is not merely a book to be recited but a binding covenant that demands action, reform, and justice. For too long, he argued, Muslims have reduced Islam to personal practice, neglecting its role as a global system of guidance.
Calling for a shift in strategy, Dr. Jameel urged Muslims to move away from defensiveness and engage with confidence and clarity. He described the current world order as driven by “economic fundamentalism,” where profit dictates politics, law, health, and culture. He criticized Western democracies as “corporatocracies,” dominated by industries and lobbies, with leaders often lacking moral integrity.
Dr. Jameel contrasted Islamic systems with Western social models, noting that Islam’s so-called restrictions are in fact protections for family and dignity. He also highlighted Islam’s health practices, such as fasting and ablution, as spiritually meaningful and scientifically beneficial.
Concluding the session, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind President Sadatullah Hussaini echoed the urgency, warning of a growing “vacuum of values” in today’s world. He outlined three responsibilities for Muslims: to engage society beyond their community, to shift from opposition to constructive alternatives, and to transform this vision into a collective mission.
