New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) president Syed Sadatullah Husaini has defended the display of Palestinian flags during Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions, saying it does not violate Indian law. He reminded that India has historically supported Palestine at the United Nations and consistently backed the creation of a Palestinian state. “If a young person raises a Palestinian flag, it is not unlawful,” he said.
On the recent bulldozer action in Assam that led to a death, Husaini called for an impartial investigation. He demanded punishment for those found guilty and immediate rehabilitation for the displaced. He stressed that such drives should not continue until judicial review is complete.
Husaini also addressed the flood situation across several states. He said JIH volunteers and affiliated NGOs were providing relief. He highlighted how poor infrastructure and corruption worsened the disaster, with roads washed away and bridges collapsing. He urged the government to provide urgent aid, ensure basic facilities for the affected, and announce a special package for farmers who suffered heavy losses.
Turning to economic concerns, Husaini criticised the impact of American tariffs on Indian industries. He said Surat’s diamond sector, Uttar Pradesh’s carpet industry worth over 2,500 crore rupees, and Tamil Nadu’s textile units have all suffered. He noted that JIH had already submitted recommendations to the government on tackling these challenges.
He reminded the government that constitutional positions come with responsibility to act within the law and ensure justice.
