The Indian-Arab Cultural Centre of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a symposium on the occasion of Eid Milad un Nabi on September 3, 2025, at the Centre’s conference hall. The event, held at 11:30 am, was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif, who also served as the chief guest.
The gathering was attended by eminent academics including Prof. Muslim Khan, Dean of Social Sciences; Prof. Abuzar Khairi, Hony. Director of the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution; and Prof. H. A. Najmi, Hony. Director of the Centre for West Asian Studies, alongside faculty members and students.
The program began with a Qur’an recitation by Syed Roshan, followed by a translation by student Nargis. Students Umme Kulsum and Saniya Parween spoke on the theme “My Prophet,” while Ashfaque Hussain delivered an Arabic presentation on the Prophet’s life and teachings.
Prof. Sanjay Pandey of JNU, the guest speaker, highlighted the cultural legacy of the Prophet in India, recalling how a Hindu Raja facilitated the construction of India’s first mosque in the 7th century. He emphasized the Prophet’s character as a source of moral guidance, symbolizing the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb.
In his keynote address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Asif elaborated on the philosophy of Surah Al-Fatiha, stressing sincerity, diligence, and spiritual growth. He encouraged students to pursue their goals with dedication while contributing positively to society. His remarks inspired a deeper reflection on faith and responsibility among the audience.
The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Md. Aftab Ahmad, who expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, distinguished speakers, and students for making the event successful.
