Pune Eid-E-Milad Festivities Raise Safety Concerns After Window Collapse

Pune: A wooden window structure at Durvesh Tea Shop on MG Road, near Fashion Street, collapsed around 7:30 PM during Eid-E-Milad celebrations. The incident was reportedly triggered by intense vibrations from loud DJ music played in the area.

The tea shop’s owner, 70-year-old Shafi Shaikh, who has lived in the same building for decades, expressed alarm over the impact of high-decibel sound on old structures. “The noise was so strong that the window fell down. I could feel the entire building shaking,” he said.

Although no one was injured, Shaikh warned that the situation highlights a serious risk for aging properties in the neighborhood. He urged the police and local authorities to impose stricter noise control measures during public celebrations. “This level of noise is not only disturbing but also dangerous. Authorities must act before something worse happens,” he added.

Residents in Pune Camp also voiced concerns. Many said that celebrations in densely populated areas should balance festivity with safety, especially where old and fragile structures stand close to busy roads.

Police have yet to release an official statement. However, the incident has renewed debate over sound regulations during religious and cultural events. Citizens are pressing for stricter monitoring to ensure that celebrations do not endanger lives or property.
