Plea in Supreme Court Seeks Cancellation of India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match

New Delhi— A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the upcoming Asia Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan, scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, reported the Siasat.

The plea, moved by four law students led by Urvashi Jain, argued that playing a cricket match with Pakistan so soon after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor would be against “national dignity” and harmful to the morale of the armed forces.

“Cricket between nations is meant to show harmony and friendship. But after the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, when our soldiers sacrificed their lives, playing with Pakistan sends the wrong message — that while our people mourn, we are celebrating sports with the very country that shelters terrorists,” the petition stated.

The petitioners further contended that such a match could hurt the sentiments of the families of victims who lost their lives in terror attacks. “The dignity of the nation and security of its citizens must come before entertainment,” the plea read.

The petition urged the apex court to intervene, stressing that the match would be “detrimental to national interests” and could lower the morale of soldiers and citizens alike.

The matter is expected to be taken up for hearing before the Supreme Court in the coming days.
