Telangana Waqf Board Faces Pressure to Appoint Full-Time CEO

Hyderabad: Concerns have been raised over the absence of a full-time Chief Executive Officer at the Telangana State Waqf Board. Activists, political leaders, and board members argue that the delay in appointment is affecting the body’s ability to safeguard Muslim endowments and manage day-to-day affairs.

Former CEO Mohammed Asadullah was repatriated to his parent department after a Telangana High Court case. Following his exit, the government issued an order but has yet to appoint a replacement. Critics warn that the lack of leadership is leaving the board ineffective in addressing pressing issues.

Amjed Ullah Khan of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek said the situation has dealt a serious blow to the functioning of the board. He questioned the Congress government’s position, pointing out its earlier opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament and the contrast with its actions in Telangana.

Congress leader Osman al Hajiri echoed these concerns, while TGSWB member Syed Abul Fateh Bandagi Badesha Quadri warned that the Act was being gradually implemented in the state without open discussion. He emphasized that the CEO’s role is critical for convening board meetings, taking action against encroachments, and coordinating with revenue and police authorities.

The board is currently engaged in numerous legal battles at the Tribunal, Telangana High Court, and Supreme Court. Stakeholders believe that without a full-time CEO, effective protection of waqf properties and resolution of disputes will remain compromised.
