New Delhi April 25: In a keynote address at the ‘Samajik Nyay Sammelan’ organized by the Samruddha Bharat Foundation here Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi articulated his commitment to advancing social justice for marginalized communities, asserting that this mission transcends mere political agendas.
Gandhi declared, “Social justice to the 90 percent people comprising Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Adivasi, and minorities is the mission of my life and not my political agenda.” He emphasized the imperative of conducting a comprehensive caste census, which he described as a fundamental step towards achieving equitable participation and partnership for these segments of society.
“If we come to power, the first thing we will announce is to conduct the caste census and no power on earth can stop it,” Gandhi asserted, underlining the importance of this initiative in addressing deep-rooted inequalities.
Elaborating on his vision, Gandhi clarified that the proposed caste census would extend beyond a mere demographic survey to encompass an economic and institutional evaluation, aimed at identifying and rectifying systemic injustices faced by the majority of India’s population.
“I am not interested in caste but in justice, and today 90 percent of people in India are facing severe injustice,” Gandhi emphasized, linking the country’s aspirations for global stature with the inclusive empowerment of its marginalized communities.
During his speech, Gandhi also criticized the absence of Dalit, tribal, and OBC representation in the top 200 companies of India, alleging economic disparity exacerbated by policies favoring a select few. He pointedly criticized the Modi government for allegedly funneling significant sums of public money to a handful of business entities, contrasting this with Congress’ commitment to redistributing wealth for broader societal benefit.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks underscored the seriousness of the Congress party’s manifesto commitments, positioning them not merely as political rhetoric but as genuine pledges towards addressing systemic inequalities.
The event, which featured addresses from prominent Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, P. Wilson, and Ratan Lal among others, highlighted the party’s focus on social justice and economic reform as key pillars of their political agenda.
