Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor Among Key Candidates in Phase 2 of Lok Sabha Polls

25 Apr. 24: As the Lok Sabha elections progress, notable figures like Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, and Hema Malini are prominent contenders in the ongoing second phase of polling. This phase covers multiple states and constituencies, with key battles unfolding across the political spectrum.

Rahul Gandhi, the incumbent MP from Wayanad in Kerala, is seeking re-election and faces opponents from the CPI and BJP. His previous victory in 2019 marked a substantial margin of over 7 lakh votes.

Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader, aims to secure the Thiruvananthapuram seat for the fourth consecutive term. He competes against BJP’s Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and CPI’s Pannyan Raveendran.

Hema Malini, known for representing Mathura since 2014, is up against Congress’ Mukesh Dhangar. Similarly, Om Birla, a two-time MP from Kota, is contesting against Congress’ Prahlad Gunjal.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat seeks a third win from Jodhpur, facing a challenge from Congress candidate Karan Singh Uchiyarda.

Furthermore, notable entries into the electoral fray include Arun Govil, famous for his role as Lord Ram in the Ramayan TV series, contesting from Meerut against candidates from BSP and SP.

Across various states like Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir, the second phase of polling witnesses intense electoral battles.

These elections are crucial in shaping India’s political landscape, with seasoned politicians and newcomers vying for seats in the Lok Sabha. The turnout and outcomes of this phase will significantly influence the trajectory of the ongoing electoral process.
