Rahul Gandhi Urges Parliamentary Discussion on NEET Irregularities

28 Jun. 24: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate a “respectful” and thorough parliamentary discussion on the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Gandhi emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue, which significantly impacts the country’s youth.

Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, Gandhi stated, “This is an issue concerning the youth, and the INDIA bloc believes it is the most important matter that needs immediate attention.” He stressed the necessity for Parliament to convey a unified message to the youth, demonstrating that both the government and opposition are committed to addressing student concerns.

The NEET-UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5, saw the participation of approximately 24 lakh candidates. However, the announcement of the results on June 4 was overshadowed by allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar and other irregularities.

In response to these concerns, the Education Ministry canceled the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) and NEET (postgraduate) examinations, citing potential compromises in the exams’ integrity. Gandhi’s call for a parliamentary discussion aims to address these issues and ensure fairness and transparency in the examination process.
