Jaipur, Jan. 20: The Rajasthan government has announced that all meat shops in the state will be closed on January 22, the day of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony for Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The decision was made to maintain a “pious atmosphere” in the state during the historic event.
The order was issued by the state’s Department of Local Self-Government. It applies to all slaughterhouses and meat and fish shops in Rajasthan.
Director of Local Self Government Department, Suresh Kumar Ola issued orders to commissioners and executive officers of all Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipalities of the state. According to the orders, on the occasion of the consecration of Ram temple on January 22, instructions have been given to keep all the slaughterhouses and meat and fish shops located in the state closed.
Earlier, the Bhajanlal government had declared January 22 as a dry day. All liquor shops in the state will remain closed on this day.
The Rajasthan government has also declared January 22 to be a half-day holiday.
The Pran Pratishtha ceremony is the installation of Ram Lalla idol in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple built on the site of Babri Masjid which was demolished on December 6, 2002.
The Rajasthan government’s decision to close meat shops has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have welcomed the move, saying it will help create a more pious atmosphere for the ceremony. Others have criticized the decision, saying it is discriminatory and infringes on the rights of meat-eaters.
The decision has also sparked a debate about the role of religion in public life in India. Some people have argued that the government should not interfere in religious matters, while others have said the government has a responsibility to promote religious harmony.
