Rajkot Fire Tragedy: Unlicensed Gaming Zone’s Lethal Blaze Claims 35 Lives

Rajkot, May 26: A devastating fire broke out in a two-story gaming zone within the TRP amusement and theme park in Rajkot, Gujarat, on Saturday evening, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 35 people, including 12 children. The victims were among those enjoying a discounted ticket scheme during the summer vacation.

The facility, which lacked proper licenses and fire clearance certificates, had only a single entry and exit gate, making escape difficult. Additionally, the gaming zone stored 1,500-2,000 liters of diesel for generators and 1,000-1,500 liters of petrol for go-karting, creating a severe fire hazard.

The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, spread rapidly, with smoke visible from a distance. Efforts to extinguish the fire were hampered by the collapse of the temporary structure and strong wind conditions.

Authorities have detained the owner and manager of the TRP Game Zone as part of an investigation led by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Rajkot Mayor Nayna Pedhadiya announced an investigation into how the gaming zone operated without the necessary licenses.

The Gujarat state government has announced compensation packages of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed his condolences and assured swift action, directing immediate rescue and relief operations.
