Rajya Sabha MP Rahim Condemns Suspension of Whistleblower Muslim-Dalit Students at Ambedkar University Delhi

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament A. A. Rahim has strongly condemned the suspension of three students from Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD)—Nadia, Anan, and Harsh—belonging to Muslim and Dalit backgrounds, who had reportedly exposed incidents of ragging and stood up against intimidation by individuals allegedly linked to right-wing groups. Instead of institutional support, the students now face suspension and denial of their right to education, effectively punishing them for their courage and truthfulness.
In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Ambedkar University, Rahim urged the administration to revoke the suspensions and uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and democratic accountability. “It is deeply troubling that whistleblowers are being silenced while those responsible for harassment remain unquestioned,” Rahim remarked. He further noted that this incident reflects a broader trend of institutional hostility towards dissent, especially targeting students from marginalised communities.
The MP also highlighted the ongoing student protest, led by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the elected student union at AUD, which has now entered its sixth consecutive day. “These students are not fighting for personal gain but for the principle that universities must remain safe and democratic spaces,” he said.
Expressing concern over the delay in internal hearings and the increasing securitisation of the campus, Rahim commented, “The repeated postponement of hearings, despite sympathetic observations by the Delhi High Court, raises serious concerns about the university’s commitment to procedural fairness and student welfare.”
Rahim appealed to the wider academic fraternity, civil society, and democratic forces to stand in solidarity with the protesting students and to reaffirm the values of Ambedkarite education that AUD is meant to uphold.
