Amravati: Religion teaches love, not violence, and communal harmony is the key to eradicating hatred from society, said Professor Salim Engineer, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, at an event titled ‘Communal Harmony: Strength in Unity’ held on Friday evening at Masjid Tauheed, Wahedat Nagar. The program, organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Amravati aimed to promote peace, brotherhood, and interfaith understanding.
Several religious and community leaders attended the event, including Bhai Mukesh Singh (Head Granthi, Gurudwara Gurusingh Sabha), Bhante Buddhipriya (Buddha Vihar), Father Rajesh Samad (IMS), Ravi Dada Manav (Shri Gurudev Adhyatma Gurukul), ACP Khandale (representing CP Naveenchandra Reddy), Senior Police Inspector Brahmagiri of Gadgenagar Police Station, and Maulana Mohammad Riyaz Qasmi. Prof. Salim Engineer, who presided over the program, emphasized the need for dialogue and mutual understanding, stating that religion builds character and ethics and does not endorse oppression or injustice. He warned that violence enters the discourse only when religion is exploited for political gains.
Other speakers echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of unity and coexistence. Bhai Mukesh Singh remarked that love for all is at the heart of Sikhism, while Bhante Buddhipriya and Father Rajesh Samad underscored that no faith promotes violence. Ravi Dada Manav observed that when the village head, chief minister, and prime minister are the same for all, how can God be different? ACP Khandale praised Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for practicing what it preaches and remarked that the khaki uniform of the police symbolizes impartiality.
Participants unanimously agreed that unity is the nation’s greatest strength and urged authorities to take strict action against hate speech, emphasizing that communal harmony is vital for India’s progress.
