Religious commands play more significant role than laws: Dr. Somanna

Virajpet: Religious commands play a more significant role than government laws in bringing about change in society, opined Dr. J. Somanna, a veteran thinker and retired principal.

He was speaking after inaugurating a convention organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Virajpet on “The Exalted Character of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ”

Dr. Somanna said, “Prophet Muhammad ﷺ practically showed the way to reform worldly life through spirituality. Unlike other religious reformers, he provided exemplary education to society while living as a commoner. His life was an open book, and it’s remarkable that every aspect of his life is documented.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ didn’t just confine himself to a few areas like other great men and reformers. His principles and ideals were capable of transforming society entirely. He built a society that acknowledged God as the protector and lord in all walks of life,” Somanna added.

Presiding over the convention, Riyaz Ahmed, Assistant Secretary JIH Karnataka, said, “The mysteries between religions must be eradicated. Dialogues between various religions will create an atmosphere of mutual understanding.

This is the solution to the diseases of hatred, animosity, communalism, and jealousy that society faces today. Unfortunately, Muslim society and the entire society have failed to understand Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as they should.

Charles D’Souza, Principal of Titimati Government First Grade College, and D.P. Rajesh Padmanabha, Taluk President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, also spoke on the occasion.
