Renowned dental surgeon Anees Ahmed honoured with Life Time Achievement Award

Dr. Anees Ahmed was honoured with Life Time Achievement Award in Oral and Maxilla Facial Surgery by the Karnataka chapter of AOMSI at Dharward on 15th Sept. in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments.

Fortune favours the bold, God helps those who help themselves is the summary of Dr. Anees Ahmed’s journey who was honoured with Life Time Achievement Award in Oral and Maxilla Facial Surgery by the Karnataka chapter of Association of Oral Maxilla Facial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) at Dharwad on 15th Sept. in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments.

The prestigious award is generally given to persons with a longstanding record of integrity and contribution in the field of OMFS. Three more OMFS of Karnataka were felicitated in the 10th annual conference of AOMSI held at SDM College of Dental Sciences under the theme “Imbibe, Inculcate, Inspire.”

Dr. Anees Ahmed, 73, had his primary education in Urdu medium in his native town Hasan and graduated in dentistry from Govt. Dental College Bangalore. He completed his masters in Oral And Maxilla Facial Surgery in 1982. He started as assistant professor from 1995 and became professor and head of the department in 2005 and retired on 31 December 2016. He was external examiner in nine universities, including the prestigious Manipal University, Karnataka.

After serving in King Khalid Hospital, Saudi Arabia for seven years, he returned to Mysore in 1995 where he served as Assistant Associated Professor in Farooqia Dental College, until recently.

A tree is known by its fruit
Dr. Ahmed was instrumental in establishment of Al Ansaar Hospital in 2012 after initiating Huda Public School in 2010 in Mysore. The hospital is 50-bed multispecialty centre and the school caters to 3000 students from lower primary to pre-university level.

Urdu literature is his area of special interest that reflected in his brief talk he gave while receiving the award in Dharward. He commenced with a couplet of Allama Iqbal:

yaqeen muhkam, amal paiham, muhabbat faateh-i-aalam/ Jihad-i-zindagani mein hain yeh mardon ki shamsheeren (Firm faith, constant struggle, love, conquest of the universe; These are the swords for the brave men in the battle of life).
