Report Accuses Telangana Government of Inaction amid Anti-Muslim Violence in Jainoor

A recently released fact-finding report highlights the anti-Muslim violence that erupted in Jainoor village, Telangana, on September 4, alleging state government inaction and potential complicity in the events leading to the attacks. Compiled by a coalition of social and civil rights activists, the report underscores rising tensions between the Muslim and Adivasi communities, reportedly stoked by political interests and inadequate law enforcement response.

According to the findings, a mob of approximately 5,000 individuals from the Vaddara, Vanjara, and other tribal communities converged on Jainoor, resulting in the destruction of 11 homes, 95 businesses, and four mosques. Additionally, 42 vehicles belonging to the Muslim community were set ablaze during the violence.

The report, published last week, points fingers at both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for contributing to the charged atmosphere leading up to the violence. It suggests that an alleged assault on an Adivasi woman on August 31 was exploited by these political factions to incite hostility towards Muslims.

The activists claim that BRS leaders, motivated by the Muslim community’s support for the Congress party in the previous election, have aligned themselves with the BJP and associated organizations in Adilabad and Asifabad districts. They are accused of orchestrating a campaign that labeled the incident as “Love Jihad,” conducting protests, and disseminating narratives that portrayed Muslims as perpetrators of violence against tribal women.

The report calls for urgent action to address the underlying tensions and ensure the protection of minority communities in the region.
