Ahmedabad — A fiery political face-off erupted at the AICC meeting in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, as Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared that the Congress party would not allow the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to gain a foothold in Telangana. Drawing inspiration from the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Reddy proclaimed that under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, the Congress would stop BJP’s expansion in the southern state, reported the Mint.
“From the land of Vallabhbhai Patel, I’m announcing with full resolve that we will not allow BJP to step into Telangana,” Reddy said, calling on Congress workers and Gandhi followers to unite and defeat “Godse’s descendants and Modi” across the country.
Highlighting the Congress-led government’s achievements, Reddy stated that promises made by Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra—including the ₹21,000 crore farm loan waiver and the initiation of a caste census—had been fulfilled in Telangana. He credited these moves to Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and vision, asserting that his government was acting on commitments made during the 4,000 km-long padayatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
Standing in Gujarat, Reddy also invoked historical ties between Telangana and the land of Patel, referencing the region’s liberation from the Nizam’s rule under Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhbhai Patel.
Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar hit back sharply, ridiculing Reddy’s claims and pointing out Congress’s electoral defeats in the state. Taking to social media, Sanjay highlighted that Reddy failed to secure victories in key constituencies like Mahabubnagar and Malkajgiri, and even came third in Kamareddy, losing to BJP candidates.
“In Hyderabad, Congress doesn’t even have candidates and is relying on AIMIM. Yet Revanth Reddy claims they’ll stop BJP from growing in Telangana? When you can’t win in your own backyard, how will you challenge BJP nationally?” Sanjay questioned.
The war of words has intensified the political narrative ahead of upcoming electoral battles, revealing deepening rivalries between Congress and BJP in Telangana and beyond.
