A video circulating on social media, shared by several right-wing accounts, has falsely claimed that a man breaking the glass window of a Vande Bharat Express train is part of a ‘jihadi’ plot to defame the Indian Railways. These claims have sparked unnecessary alarm among the public, but the actual reason behind the incident has been clarified by a senior railway official.
The video, which shows a man intentionally breaking a train window, led to baseless accusations of sabotage. However, Senior Section Engineer Manthira Moorthy M, who is in-charge of the Vande Bharat Express in Tirunelveli, on his X account @RoboMoorthy has debunked these claims. Moorthy explained that the video captures a standard maintenance procedure where an already damaged glass is deliberately broken to replace it with a new one.
Moorthy emphasized that the procedure took place at the ‘pitline,’ a secure area with no public access, ensuring the safety and integrity of the operation. He further stated that he personally developed this maintenance protocol to address damaged windows on the Vande Bharat Express.
Renowned Factchecker Mohammed Zubair has checked the video to clarify, at the microblogging site X/@zoo_bear, that it is a standard maintenance procedure and not a deliberate attempt to defame the Indian Railways as alleged.
This incident highlights the dangers of misinformation, as misleading social media posts can easily incite unnecessary panic and distrust. The official clarification serves as a reminder to verify information before spreading unfounded rumors.
