Rising Voices: First-Time MPs Symbolize Hope in India’s 2024 Lok Sabha

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India have introduced a fresh wave of political representation, with a significant number of first-time MPs making their debut. The INDIA bloc’s notable gains, securing 233 seats, have curtailed the dominance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which garnered 240 seats – short of the majority mark of 272. As a result, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead a coalition government, potentially fostering a more balanced political landscape.

Among the new faces are ten MPs whose victories are being hailed as symbols of hope and change:

  1. Sanjna Jatav: At 25, the Congress representative from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, is among the youngest MPs. A law graduate and former zilla parishad member, Jatav triumphed over BJP’s Ramswaroop Koli by 51,983 votes.

  3. Geniben Nagaji Thakor: A Congress legislator from Gujarat, Thakor secured a historic victory in Banaskantha, marking the party’s first Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat in a decade.
  4. Rajkumar Roat: Representing the Bharat Adivasi Party, Roat clinched the Banswara seat in Rajasthan with a substantial margin of over 2.47 lakh votes, overcoming two strong contenders.
  5. Sasikanth Senthil: A former IAS officer, Senthil won the Tiruvallur seat in Tamil Nadu for Congress, defeating BJP’s Pon Balaganapathy by an impressive 5.72 lakh votes.
  6. Iqra Hasan Chaudhary: At 27, Hasan of the Samajwadi Party emerged victorious in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, overcoming BJP’s Pradeep Kumar by more than 69,000 votes.
  7. Rajaram Singh: The veteran farmer leader from Bihar was elected from the Karakat seat, defeating Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh by over 1.05 lakh votes.
  8. Awadhesh Prasad: Representing the Samajwadi Party, Prasad achieved a significant win in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, defeating BJP’s Lallu Singh by 54,000 votes.
  9. Amra Ram: A seasoned CPI(M) leader, Ram won the Sikar seat in Rajasthan, defeating BJP’s Sumedhanand Saraswati by nearly 73,000 votes.
  10. Engineer Rashid: Despite being imprisoned since 2019, Rashid, known as “Engineer,” won the Baramulla seat in Jammu and Kashmir, defeating Omar Abdullah of the National Conference by over 2.04 lakh votes.
