Round Table Meeting of All India Unani Tibbi Conference Held at AMU

Aligarh: A momentous roundtable meeting of the All India Unani Tibbi Conference (AIUTC) recently convened at Aligarh Muslim University. Founded by the visionary Hakim Ajmal Khan in 1910, the AIUTC has historically united Vedic and Unani scholars to safeguard and promote indigenous medicine in India. Over the decades, the AIUTC has played a pivotal role in establishing Unani institutions and hospitals nationwide.

AIUTC remains a vital platform for Unani scholars, researchers, and practitioners, shaping policies on indigenous medicine with a focus on Unani healing systems.

The recent meeting, held in collaboration with the Ajmal Khan Tibbi College, aimed to revive academic, research, and practitioner bodies at the state chapter level. Dr. Mohammad Khalid Siddiqui, General Secretary of the AIUTC and former Director General of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), New Delhi, presided over the event. Attendees included faculty from the Ajmal Khan Tibbi College, scientists from the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), postgraduate scholars, and practitioners.

Engaging discussions highlighted the need for organizing national seminars, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, and symposia in a phased manner. Participants underscored the importance of involving state colleges and stakeholders while raising awareness about AIUTC’s contributions. Encouraging young researchers and practitioners through awards and recognition was also emphasised.

Proposals for future initiatives were deliberated, with a consensus to execute them promptly. The session was chaired by Prof. Ferasat Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Unani Medicine; Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Principal of the Ajmal Khan Tibbi College; Prof. F.S. Sherani, senior professor and former Dean; and Dr. Mohammad Mohsin, Chairman of the Department of Amraze Jild wa Zohrawia.

The Faculty members, including Professors Asia Sultana, Anwar Siddiqui, Tanzeel, Tabassum Latafat, Ashar Qadeer, Abdul Rauf, Ruby Anjum, and Zamir Ahmad, alongside Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan and Misbah Azhar, shared their valuable insights.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohammad Anas, who lauded the contributions and active participation of all attendees in shaping the future of Unani medicine in India.
