Mumbai : In a sharp editorial published in Shiv Sena (UBT)’s mouthpiece Saamana, the recent Pahalgam terror attack has been used to launch a scathing critique of the BJP’s brand of nationalism. The editorial says the incident lays bare the hollowness of BJP’s claims and underlines serious security lapses under its watch, reported the Madhyamam.
“The attack in Pahalgam has exposed the truth behind the BJP’s loud and performative nationalism,” the editorial stated, accusing the ruling party of failing to ensure safety in a region it frequently claims to have brought under control post the abrogation of Article 370.
Saamana went on to question how such an incident could occur in a “heavily militarized” area like Pahalgam if the government’s security measures were really effective. “It was claimed that after scrapping Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir was fully integrated and peaceful. Then how could terrorists launch such a strike and escape so easily?” it asked.
The editorial also took aim at the media and central agencies for their silence on the matter, alleging selective outrage. “If this had happened under the rule of any other party, national TV channels would have run round-the-clock debates. But now, the same media is quiet,” it said.
Calling for accountability, Saamana urged citizens not to be blinded by slogans but to seek answers from those in power. “True nationalism means protecting the lives of citizens, not just waving flags,” the editorial concluded.
