Sahebaan Welfare Trust Promotional Stall Inaugurated at Karavali Utsav

Mangaluru: The Sahebaan Welfare Trust (SWT) promotional stall at the Beary Pavilion in Karavali Utsav (Coastal Celebrations) grounds, Lalbagh, was inaugurated by SM Rasheed Haji, President of Beary Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The event was held in the presence of BS Basheer, President of Jamaithul Falah, Mangaluru.

Sahebaan is the Urdu speaking Muslim community in coastal Karnataka spread over two districts, Dakshin Kannada and Udupi.

Some of the notable icons from this community include Khan Bahadur Udupi Haji Abdulla, founder of Corporation Bank; KS Masood, former MLC and president of Central Muslim Committee, Dakshin Kannada, Yasmin Ahmed, first woman IAS officer from coastal Karnataka, and former chairperson Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission; Nayeemur Rahman, first IRS officer from coastal Karnataka and IT Commissioner of Maharashtra; Prof. Muzaffar Assadi, former vice chancellor Mysore University, Lt. Col. Syed Nazir Abbas, first high ranking Muslim officer in Indian Army hailing from coastal Karnataka, etc.

SWT aims to preserve and promote community’s identity, language and culture, community empowerment through education and skill development, promote peace, friendship and interfaith harmony.

Karavali Utsav, known for its vibrant themes, ethnic cuisine, and cultural programmes, is drawing large crowds daily and will continue until 19 January 2025. During the event, SWT’s promotional brochure was officially released.

Prominent dignitaries attending the event included Siraj Ahmed, Managing Director of Inland Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.; Meraj Yousuf, Executive Director of Inland Infrastructure; Shahul Hameed; and Salih Koya, Trustees of ACE IAS Academy.
