New Delhi: Social media platforms carried widespread claims alleging a complete ban on photography and videography inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah for Haj 2026. Multiple unverified websites repeated the claim, which created concern among pilgrims preparing for the next season.
A review of official Saudi government channels shows no such directive. The Saudi Press Agency, the Ministry of Haj and Umrah, and the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques have not issued any announcement restricting photography. No circular or advisory indicates a change to existing rules.
Photography inside both mosques continues under long-standing etiquette. Worshippers are encouraged to act with respect, avoid blocking pathways, and ensure they do not disturb others in prayer. Officials permit photography as long as the act does not affect safety, movement, or the privacy of fellow worshippers. These guidelines remain unchanged for Haj 2026.
The rumour appears to have started from a single unverified post. Several outlets reproduced the same claim with similar language. None offered an official source or document. This pattern contributed to the fast spread of the misinformation.
Authorities advise pilgrims and tour operators to follow updates only from recognised Saudi channels. All instructions on procedures, health requirements, and movement inside the holy sites are released through official platforms. Reliance on authenticated sources helps prevent confusion and ensures pilgrims receive accurate guidance for their journey.
