SBF Appeals for Donations to Support Flood Relief Efforts in Varanasi

New Delhi: The Society for Bright Future (SBF), a national-level non-profit organization dedicated to disaster management, has made an urgent appeal for donations to support their ongoing relief efforts in Varanasi.

“The Ganga River’s water level began to recede on Tuesday, but many areas in Varanasi remain submerged. The river continues to flow just below the danger mark, and flooding along its tributary, the Varuna River, has caused widespread distress. The floodwaters have inundated most regions along the Varuna, leaving countless residents marooned and struggling to cope,” SBF statement said.

A tragic incident in Mirzapur underscored the severity of the situation when two boys drowned while navigating a field flooded by the rising waters. According to the Central Water Commission, the Ganga crossed the warning level of 70.26 meters in Varanasi on Monday, peaking at 70.83 meters. While upstream areas like Mirzapur are witnessing a receding trend, Ghazipur and Ballia remain in a critical state. In Ghazipur, the river surpassed the danger mark of 63.10 meters, while in Ballia, it flowed more than two meters above the danger level of 57.61 meters. Authorities expect the water levels to remain high for a few more days.

SBF has mobilized its volunteers for rescue and relief operations in Varanasi’s flooded areas. Despite challenging conditions, these dedicated individuals are working tirelessly to assist those affected. Over 4,500 people have been impacted by the floods, according to government estimates.

SBF has a long-standing history of responding to disasters across the country, including Cyclones Fani, Amphan, Tauktae, and Biparjoy, as well as the recent landslide incident in Wayanad, Kerala.

SBF has appeal for donations to support their ongoing relief efforts. “The situation is dire, and every bit of support counts. We appeal to people from all walks of life to come forward and help us in this mission to save humanity,” said an SBF representative.
