SC Delivers Split Verdict on Tahir Hussain’s Interim Bail Plea for Delhi Elections

New Delhi: The Supreme Court delivered a split verdict today on the plea filed by Tahir Hussain, seeking interim bail to contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, reports the Live Law.

The bench, comprising Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, was divided in its decision. While Justice Mithal rejected the application, Justice Amanullah allowed it.

The split verdict implies that the matter will now require reference to a larger bench for resolution. The apex court is expected to form a new bench to address the issue expeditiously, given the approaching elections scheduled for February 5.

Tahir Hussain, a former councillor, has been in judicial custody in connection with cases related to the 2020 Delhi riots. His plea for interim bail cited the need to participate in the democratic process by contesting the elections.
