Scholarships for 7 Lakh Minority Students Disbursed in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister for Minority Affairs, Zameer Ahmed Khan, stated that the Directorate of Minorities is providing scholarships worth ₹290 crores to 7.87 lakh students from primary to higher education this year.
In a press statement, he said ₹180 crores have already been transferred to 6.25 lakh students through direct cash transfer. A proposal for ₹100 crores has been submitted to the finance department for 1.6 lakh students.
Under the Vidyasri scheme, 23,000 students have been admitted to hostels till January. Another 5,753 students, unable to get hostel admission, received ₹1,500 per month for 10 months.
Aadhaar linking issues delayed funds for 200 students, but they will be paid once resolved.
The Minorities Directorate received ₹2,292 crores this year, with ₹1,941 crores released and ₹1,608 crores spent on various schemes.
The Minority Development Corporation disbursed ₹92.50 crores in loans to 7,500 students under Arivu Yojana and the Foreign Education Assistance Scheme. The Waqf Board received ₹157 crores, of which ₹125 crores have been spent.
