Mumbai police have heightened security across the city following a social media alert warning of potential Hindu-Muslim riots, arson, and bomb blasts during Eid in areas like Dongri. The message, which was posted on X and tagged Navi Mumbai police, alleged that “illegal Rohingya, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani infiltrators” could incite violence on March 31-April 1, reported the Mint.
Upon being alerted, Mumbai police increased patrolling and deployed personnel from the Crime Branch, Anti-Terrorism Squad, and Special Branch. However, authorities have reported no suspicious activity so far.
The Maharashtra government has also introduced new guidelines to monitor news reports for factual accuracy. The Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) will now scrutinize media coverage to ensure prompt clarifications for misleading or inaccurate reports.
Authorities continue to maintain vigilance to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration.
