Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a teacher at a private school in Telangana’s Kamareddy town molested a six-year-old girl student, triggering angry protests by people.
Police registered a case against Nagaraju, a Physical Education Teacher (PET) at Jeevadan School and arrested him.
The PET committed the heinous act on Monday in the school premises. After the victim, a UKG student, revealed this to her parents, they along with a large number of people gathered at the school on Tuesday, demanding stringent punishment to the PET.
Raising slogans against the teacher and seeking justice, protestors tried to enter the school but were stopped by police. The situation turned tense as both sides pushed each other and, in the commotion, two policemen and a few protestors were injured. The police resorted to lathi charge to control the situation.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring action against the guilty.
Rumours about the victim’s death further fueled tension. Local Muslim leaders appealed to people not to believe the rumours. They said people irrespective of their religion staged the protest at the school demanding action against the culprit.
Kamareddy district Superintendent of Sindhu Sharma said the police have arrested the accused and he will be produced in the court.
Meanwhile, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi spoke to Kamareddy Superintendent of Police and demanded immediate action. “A PET teacher molested a girl child in Jeevadan School, Kamareddy. I spoke to the SP and emphasised the need for an urgent response. The SP has assured me that strict action is being taken against all those responsible,” Owaisi posted on ‘X’.
