New Delhi: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) condemned the attack on Jamia Millia Islamia students. Supporting their demands, SFI accused the university administration of unleashing violence, including a midnight police crackdown. Several students, including SFI unit president Comrade Sakhi, were suspended for protesting against the administration’s undemocratic actions. SFI highlighted similar attacks on democratic rights at TISS Mumbai, Pondicherry University, and JNU.
SFI stated that students were peacefully protesting against the administration’s curbs on democracy and recent undemocratic show-cause notices. The police detained seven students, seized their phones, and did not disclose their whereabouts.
SFI accused Delhi police of repeatedly targeting Jamia students. It called for a nationwide protest to defend their democratic rights and urged all democratic forces to support them. The Central Executive Committee of SFI demanded the immediate release of detained students, reinstatement of suspended students, and withdrawal of undemocratic notices.
