SFI Demands Withdrawal of Circular Restricting Enrolment of “Bangladeshi” Migrants’ Children in Schools

New Delhi: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of CPI-M, has called for the immediate withdrawal of a circular issued by the Delhi Government that enforces strict admission procedures purportedly aimed at preventing the enrolment of “illegal Bangladeshi migrants” in schools. The SFI has strongly condemned the circular issued by the Department of Education.

The organisation accused the AAP-led government of promoting “soft Hindutva” in the education sector.

“This move by the AAP Government is part of a series of communal actions, including its ambiguous stance on the Delhi riots and the unfounded blame placed on Rohingyas for violence,” the SFI stated.

The Federation argued that the circular undermines the inclusive vision of education enshrined in the Right to Education Act and violates the egalitarian principles of providing education for all. It urged the government to focus on ensuring accessible education for all students, particularly those from religious, ethnic, and linguistic minority communities in Delhi.

The SFI also emphasised the importance of strengthening education in vernacular languages to enhance enrolment and active participation in school education.

SFI President Sooraj Elamon reiterated the organisation’s commitment to making education inclusive and accessible. “The Delhi Government must immediately revoke this circular, which violates constitutional principles and undermines the spirit of inclusivity,” he said.
