New Delhi: SFI Delhi University observed Manusmriti Dahan Diwas today with a rally in Vijayanagar, North Campus, followed by the symbolic burning of the Manusmriti.
The event was organised to reaffirm the commitment to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s lifelong struggle against caste oppression and spread his message of equality and justice in the face of ongoing systemic oppression.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across Delhi University, with slogans echoing the call to reject the regressive ideology symbolised by the Manusmriti.
Addressing the gathering, Sohan Yadav, Convenor of SFI Delhi, remarked, “The Manusmriti ideology is still rife in society and must be combatted. It is our duty as students and citizens to challenge these regressive ideas and uphold Ambedkar’s vision of a just and equal India.”
Aniket, an SFI activist and first-year Political Science student, provided historical context to the burning of the Manusmriti, recalling Ambedkar’s 1927 act of defiance against caste-based discrimination. He emphasised the relevance of Ambedkar’s legacy in combating the entrenched casteism in contemporary society.
The event also served as a platform to condemn recent remarks by Amit Shah that disparaged Dr. Ambedkar, highlighting the ongoing attempts by the BJP-RSS to undermine constitutional values. SFI Delhi University strongly opposed these remarks, viewing them as part of a larger agenda to revive and legitimise discriminatory ideology of the Manusmriti.
SFI remains steadfast in its commitment to the ideology of “study and struggle,” ensuring that Ambedkar’s fight for equality continues to inspire and guide future generations.
