Hyderabad: The Student Federation of India has announced a nationwide protest against the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill 2025, stating the proposed law poses risks to public education and democratic participation within universities. As part of the national call, students will hold a protest at the Arts College on the Osmania University campus.
The organisation said the Bill, passed on December 15, seeks to restructure higher education through stronger central control. SFI leaders said the move shifts key academic powers away from universities and places them under central authority. They argued education must remain accessible, democratic, and rooted in the public system.
SFI said the protest aims to inform students and teachers about long term outcomes linked to the legislation. The group said institutional autonomy faces erosion due to reduced local decision making. It said academic freedom depends on universities retaining authority over courses, faculty appointments, and internal policies.
The federation raised concern over commercial influence in higher education. It warned private interests could drive costs upward, placing higher studies beyond reach for many families. SFI also alleged the Bill opens space for ideological influence over curricula, which could weaken the public character of universities.
Another issue highlighted involves digital monitoring. SFI said increased surveillance within academic spaces would restrict freedom of expression and independent thought. The organisation rejected official assurances related to safeguards and accountability.
The Central Executive Committee said students across states have mobilised for coordinated action. SFI said the protest reflects opposition to centralisation, commercial pressure, and ideological control in education. The federation said it will continue nationwide mobilisation to defend public education, academic freedom, and democratic rights within campuses.
