Delhi Riots Conspiracy Case: Sharjeel Imam Granted 10-Day Interim Bail

New Delhi: A Delhi court has granted interim bail for 10 days (from March 20 to March 30) to social activist Sharjeel Imam, who is arrested under the UAPA Act in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai of Karkardooma Courts granted interim bail to Sharjeel Imam’s application to attend his brother’s wedding and take care of his ailing mother.

Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid were booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly inciting the riots in Delhi in 2020. They are being arrested and questioned under various stringent provisions, including Section 15A of the UAPA.
On January 5 this year, the Supreme Court had refused to grant bail to both Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid.

However, the court has already granted bail to five other accused in the same case – Gulfishan Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Mohammad Salim Khan and Shadab Ahmed.
