Uttar Kannada, July 25: In the wake of a devastating landslide in Uluvere village near Shirur, several families are grappling with the aftermath. The catastrophic event completely destroyed seven houses and partially damaged 21 others, leaving many residents in dire need of assistance.

The Humanitarian Relief Society (HRS) Karnataka, supported by volunteers across the state, swiftly responded to the crisis. HRS activists conducted an initial survey to assess the damage. Following this, teams from Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Dakshina Kannada visited the site to distribute essential ration supplies to the affected families.

An HRS spokesperson affirmed their commitment to supporting the rehabilitation of the victims in the coming days. According to local reports, the landslide claimed the lives of 10-11 individuals. Eight bodies have been recovered so far, including five members of a family who ran a tea shop. Rescue operations continue in the effort to locate the lorry driver from Kerala, believed to be buried under the debris.

The HRS’s prompt action and ongoing support are crucial as the community begins the long process of recovery and rebuilding. HRS General Secretary Mohammed Markara, speaking from Bengaluru, emphasized HRS’s capability to reach areas affected by natural disasters or calamities within 24 hours to every corner of India.

Reporting from ground zero in Uluvere village, the scene is one of devastation and resilience. The landslide, triggered by heavy rains, struck suddenly, giving residents little time to escape.

The HRS teams have been working tirelessly, providing not just essential supplies but also emotional support to the victims.

As rescue operations continue, the focus remains on finding and recovering any remaining victims. The community, though shaken, is showing remarkable strength and unity in the face of this tragedy. The support from HRS and other local organizations is an inspiration of hope for those affected, underscoring the importance of solidarity and swift action in times of crisis.

The Shirur landslide has left an indelible mark on Uluvere village, but the response from the broader community highlights the power of collective effort and compassion. As the village begins to heal and rebuild, the stories of resilience and support will continue to inspire and guide the recovery process.
