‘Shocks the Conscience, Indefensible’: Delhi High Court Slams Baba Ramdev Over ‘Sharbat Jihad’ Remark on Rooh Afza

New Delhi – The Delhi High Court on Tuesday strongly condemned Baba Ramdev for his controversial reference to “Sharbat Jihad” while speaking about Hamdard’s traditional drink Rooh Afza. The court stated that his remarks “shock the conscience” and are “indefensible.”, reported the Bar and Bench.
Hamdard Laboratories filed a plea against Ramdev, accusing him of making inflammatory and baseless statements aimed at defaming the company and provoking communal sentiments.
The High Court expressed deep concern over the nature of the remarks, asserting, “This shocks the conscience of the court. This is indefensible.” The court emphasized the need for responsible speech, especially from public figures with a wide reach and influence.
The senior advocate representing Hamdard told the court that such divisive comments add unnecessary fuel to an already volatile environment in the country and must not be tolerated.
The court has posted the next hearing for May 1.
