Siddaramiah Assures Non-Implementation of Waqf Amendment Bill

Bengaluru, Sep 2: The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah has assured a delegation of Muslim leaders that the Centre’s proposed Waqf Amendment Bill will not be implemented in the state. The delegation led by Moulana Fazalur Rahim Mujaddidi, General Secretary All India Muslim Personal Law Board impressed the CM about the flaws in the Centre’s proposed Bill and urged him to oppose the Bill. A memorandum in this respect was presented to him which throws light on the proposed amendments and Muslims objections in detail.

The Chief Minister said that the Karnataka government does not support the proposed bill. The delegation thanked the CM for his assurances and his party’s opposition to the Bill in the Parliament.

Speaking to the media later, Moulana Mujaddidi expressed his happiness over the meeting with the chief minister. He said the Board has launched a campaign across the country to raise objections to the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed to look into the objections and recommend to the Parliament. The Board also met the JPC members and meetings are also being held with chief ministers of different states especially the allies of NDA government.

The delegation comprised of former deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan, Karnataka Housing and Minority Welfare minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, political secretary to the CM Naseer Ahmed, Personal Law Board member from Karnataka Moulana Tanveer Peeran Hashmi, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka Dr. Belgami Mohammed Saad and many other religious and social leaders.
