Kothagudem, Telangana: While Muslims across the world rejoiced in the festivities of Eid-ul-Fitr, members of the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Kothagudem chose to mark the occasion with a solemn demonstration against the Waqf Amendment Bill. The group organized a silent protest at the Eidgah, wearing black ribbons as a symbol of dissent against the proposed amendments that threaten the autonomy of Waqf properties.
The protesters stood in silent reflection, emphasizing that while Eid is a day of joy and gratitude, the community cannot overlook the grave implications of the bill. “Our hearts are heavy knowing that the rights of Waqf properties, which serve as vital resources for the Muslim community, are under threat. As an act of resistance, we chose to observe this silent protest, reminding the nation that safeguarding Waqf is essential for preserving our heritage and welfare,” said a participant.
The demonstration at the Eidgah reflected a growing concern among Muslims across the country, many of whom fear that the amendments will lead to state control over Waqf lands, depriving the community of its rightful assets. Protesters urged the government to reconsider the bill and uphold the constitutional rights of minorities.
The Students Islamic Organisation has been actively raising awareness about the Waqf Amendment Bill and has organized various campaigns and protests across India. Their silent demonstration in Kothagudem adds to the nationwide dissent against the proposed legislation, calling for its withdrawal and the protection of Waqf properties.
