New Delhi: The Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) Delhi University, conducted a seminar Titled التوازن (At-Tawazun) on the topic ‘Islamic Perspective of Spirituality’ at The Scholar School here Sunday. The program aimed to educate university students from and around Delhi on Islam’s views on spirituality and how a Muslim should live in society.
In three sessions the seminar covered foundational concepts of spirituality like ego, self, personality along with Islam’s middle path or the balancing of materialism and spiritualism while also covering the dilemma it faces in the modern era. One of the sessions also talked about Islam in fields other than spirituality, focusing on Islam in political, social and cultural aspects while busting myths like ‘Islam is only spirituality focused’.
The program commenced under the presidency of Ahfas Ahmed (Secretary, SIO Delhi University) and was officially inaugurated by Abdullah Faiz (National Secretary, SIO). Distinguished personalities including Dr. Saad Ismail (Founder and Editor, Noon Project), Ms. Rahamathunnissa A. (National Secretary, JIH & Central Committee Member AIITA) and Md. Shakeel Shamsi (Ret. Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Defense, Government of India) contributed to the event, sharing their knowledge and enlightening the participants with their thought inspiring talks. The program concluded with remarks from Mr. Imrul Quesh (President, SIO Delhi zone) and a vote of thanks from Mr. Badee U Zaman (President, SIO Delhi University)
The seminar conveyed Islam’s actual views on spirituality along with calling out extreme spiritual practices like complete detachment from materialism as Non-Islamic.
