SIO Mahbubnagar Urges Telangana Govt. to Address DSC 2024 Aspirants’ Concerns

Mahbubnagar: Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Mahbubnagar, at a press meet here today, highlighted the issues surrounding the unfilled posts notified in the DSC 2024 recruitment and advocated for justice for aspirants by converting unfilled reserved category posts to the open category.

In the recently announced DSC 2024, a total of 1,183 posts were allocated for the Urdu medium, but only 517 have been filled, leaving 666 posts unoccupied due to a lack of eligible candidates from SC and ST categories. A similar issue occurred in DSC 2016 notification, where out of 900 Urdu medium posts, only 365 were filled, leaving 535 unoccupied as backlog.

The aspirants demanded the conversion of these backlog posts into the open category, citing State Subordinate Service Rule 22(h)(ii), which permits such conversion. This change would help ensure the smooth functioning of Urdu medium schools across the state.

The speakers urged the Telangana government to release a second merit list to fill the unoccupied posts promptly. They emphasised that conducting the promised Mega DSC and resolving these issues before issuing a new DSC notification would significantly benefit the student community and uphold educational equity.

The speakers referred to the provisions under the State Subordinate Service Rules to substantiate their demands:

Rule 22(g): If in any recruitment, qualified candidates belonging to SCs, STs, Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (Groups A to E), or women are unavailable for the reserved vacancies, a limited recruitment can be conducted immediately after the general recruitment to fill these posts with candidates from respective reserved categories.

Rule 22(h)(i): In cases where reserved vacancies remain unfilled even after limited recruitment, such vacancies can be converted to the Open Competition category, with prior permission from the government. This allows these posts to be filled based on merit, ensuring optimal utilisation of allocated positions.

These provisions emphasise the legal framework available to address the backlog of unfilled reserved posts. The speakers urged the Telangana government to act promptly within these legal provisions by conducting a limited recruitment drive for SC and ST categories to fill the remaining posts, and converting unfilled reserved posts into the Open category to ensure that no position remains vacant.

SIO Mahbubnagar PR Secretary Abdul Ghani Mutahir stated, “We represent countless deserving aspirants awaiting justice. SIO has been committed for over 40 years to ensuring equity, accessibility, and quality in education. We urge the government to prioritize equitable education by addressing the critical issues faced by Urdu medium students.”

Jabeen, a DSC aspirant, shared her grievances, “The backlog in reserved posts has left many deserving candidates without opportunities, impacting not just careers but also the future of Urdu medium education.”

Athar Mohiuddin from AIITA added, “The shortage of Urdu medium teachers in schools is alarming. It’s imperative for the government to address this issue to preserve and promote Urdu as a language and ensure its learners receive the education they deserve.”

The press meet concluded with a unanimous demand for immediate action by the Telangana government.
