SIO Telangana condemns attack on Missionary School by Hindutva mob

Hyderabad, April 18: Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) Telangana has strongly condemned the actions of the Hindutva mob at the Catholic school in Mancherial district of Telangana.

The Saffron mob, while raising slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’, pelted stones at the statue of St. Mother Terresa and vandalized the premises of the school. We express serious concern over the culture of threatening mob behavior against the Christian community, and the impunity the mob enjoys in the aftermath of violence, in the state of Telangana, the SIO said.

On April 16, a Hindu mob entered a catholic school in Adilabad district sloganeering ‘Jai Shree Ram’, pelting stones at the statue of St. Mother Terresa, vandalizing the main gate entering the school building, breaking window glasses, and flower pots, and damaging the office room.

The hostile saffron mob physically assaulted Father Joseph and other staff of the school. This incursion was based on an allegation that the school denied permission for students to wear religious clothing as a part of a 21-day religious festival, which, the Father denied as “totally baseless”.
