SIO Telangana holds Palestine solidarity gatherings

Hyderabad, Jan. 13: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) organised gatherings in different parts of Telangana on Saturday in response to the global call for ceasefire in Palestine.

SIO Telangana chapter said, “As the world unites in solidarity with the Palestinian people, SIO Telangana proudly stands shoulder-to-shoulder with our brothers and sisters in their struggle for freedom and justice.”

By participating in “Ceasefire Now!” solidarity gatherings in Nizamabad, Khammam, Karimnagar and Adilabad, the SIO Telangana members joined hands to raise their voices against the ongoing Israeli occupation.

Abdul Hafeez, State President of SIO Telangana said, “The atrocities taking place in Gaza expose the hypocritical and terrorist face of the western world, the Muslims of Palestine have been oppressed for three consecutive months and the world powers have stood with the Zionist state in this oppression. In such a situation, the Solidarity Gatherings on the part of humanitarian and peace-loving citizens at the global level is a bold move against the world powers.”

“Salute to the leadership of South Africa, who supported Palestine. They have boldly represented humanity by filing a case against war crimes of Israel in the International Court of Justice,” he added.

The participants in the gatherings were carrying placards to demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians. ‘The flag of Palestine will fly over Jerusalem’ , ‘Occupation is the crime, not resistance to it’, ‘From the river to the sea Palestine will be free’, ‘Stop bombing of Gaza’ and ‘protect Al-Aqsa, protect Palestine’ were some of the slogans written on placards.

People across the world joined the global call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza after 96 days of continuous Israeli bombardment in the besieged enclave.

About 24,000 Palestinians have been killed so far by Israeli forces.

As part of the Global Day of Action for Gaza on January 13, people marched on the streets all over the world, seeking an end to bloodshed. They hope to be part of a united front of global voices calling unconditionally for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

As Israel faces the charge of genocide, brought forth by South Africa to the International Court of Justice, protests were organised in more than 66 cities, in at least 36 countries.
