Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured relief for students enrolled at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence after the National Medical Commission withdrew approval for its MBBS programme. He said the government will relocate affected students to government medical colleges closer to their homes.
Speaking after the regulator’s decision, Abdullah said students’ careers should never become collateral damage. He stressed the need to fix responsibility for lapses identified by the commission. He said accountability must follow once deficiencies emerge.
The National Medical Commission withdrew approval late Tuesday. It cited serious gaps in infrastructure. These included faculty strength and availability of clinical material. The decision triggered concern among students and parents.
Abdullah said the administration would act swiftly to protect academic futures. He said placements would take place in nearby government medical colleges. He added the process would focus on minimizing disruption.
