Socialist Party has announced to organize a peace march from Imphal to Churachandpur during 11-13 November, 2024. The party has appealed to both communities to give up violence and pave the way for dialogue. This march will be organised to make an appeal for peace between Meiteis and Kukis.
“We are much concerned about the violence which shows no sign of abating in the ongoing Meitei-Kuki conflict. The alienation of the two communities and hatred generated for each other is unprecedented. The conflict has taken a heavy toll on the lives of common Meiteis and Kukis, many of whom languish in relief camps and face an uncertain future, said Magsaysay award winner Sandeep Pandey, who is General Secretary of the party.
“We believe that to resolve the conflict between the two communities a political process of dialogue will be necessary. For any dialogue to take place peace will have to be restored. Both sides will have to end violence,” said Pandey.
“Social and political activists from all regions of India will participate in the march to show their concern for the present situation in Manipur. We hope that the peace march will embolden the saner voices of peace in Manipur and mindless violence will subside. We stand with the right of common Kukis and Meiteis to live with peace, justice and dignity,” he said.
