Solidarity Youth Movement Submits Memorandum to Tehsildar on Rising Cybercrime in Karnataka

The Solidarity Youth Movement Karnataka submitted a detailed memorandum to the Ranebennur Tehsildar, Riyazuddin Bhagwan, urging the state government to take urgent and effective action against the alarming rise in cyber fraud and digital crimes across Karnataka.

The delegation included Solidarity members Zaid Khan and Zaib, well-known local social worker Salman Khateeb, and the Local Unit Leader Jebran Khan, who led the team during the submission.

The memorandum was addressed to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara through the Tehsildar.

The organisation highlighted that cybercrime has become one of the most severe threats to ordinary citizens. Digital payments, online banking, e-commerce, and social media usage have grown rapidly, but public awareness and digital security practices have not kept pace. As a result, thousands of residents across Karnataka are losing their savings to organised cybercriminal networks.

The memorandum cites distressing statistics from government data: Karnataka is the second-highest state in India for cybercrime cases; 22,472 cases were reported in 2024, and 8,620 cases until July 2025; arrests remain extremely low – only 771 arrests in 2024 and 357 arrests until July 2025; citizens lost over ₹2,515 crore in 2024 and ₹1,287 crore until July 2025, while only a small portion was recovered.

The team stressed that the actual damage is far greater because many victims do not file complaints due to fear, shame, or lack of awareness.

The memorandum placed five important demands before the government: Discuss cybercrime as a priority issue in the Winter Session beginning 8 December 2025 and announce strict measures; Strengthen financial protection for citizens and establish clear support mechanisms for victims; Introduce a dedicated Karnataka-level cybercrime helpline, instead of depending solely on the national line; Increase public awareness, especially among youth, to prevent social media hacking and online fraud; and Consider the technical recommendations and digital safety proposals that Solidarity Youth Movement Karnataka will be submitting shortly.

The organisation emphasised that cybercrime has reached every household and is now a serious challenge to public safety, social stability, and the state’s financial security.

Jebran Khan stated that protecting citizens’ money and digital identity is the government’s responsibility and urged the authorities to take immediate and firm action.
