Lucknow, Aug 24: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Officer (CEO) against the removal of a Muslim Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Kanpur’s Sisamau Assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming by-elections. The party has labeled the action as a conspiracy and demanded strict action against the responsible officials.
The SP has pointed out that, following the Kundarki seat, a similar move has been made in Sisamau, where the Muslim BLO has been replaced with a non-Muslim BLO. This has raised concerns within the party, which sees it as a deliberate attempt to influence the electoral process.
SP’s State President, Shyam Lal Pal, submitted a list of the replaced BLOs to the CEO, calling for an investigation and appropriate action against the officials involved. Previously, SP had also protested the removal of Yadav and Muslim BLOs and supervisors in the Kundarki Assembly constituency.
Sisamau and Kundarki constituencies are among the 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh set for by-elections. In the 2022 Assembly elections, the SP had won both seats. The Sisamau seat became vacant after SP MLA Haji Irfan Solanki was sentenced, and there is speculation that the party might field either his mother or wife in the upcoming by-election.
The SP has expressed strong displeasure over the removal of the Muslim BLO in Sisamau, with Shyam Lal Pal asserting in his memorandum that changing the BLO on religious grounds before the by-election is undemocratic and unconstitutional, raising serious questions about the fairness of the electoral process.
