New Delhi: A shocking incident of vandalism took place at St Mary’s Church in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Sunday around 12:30 PM. An unidentified individual attacked the church, causing damage to a statue of the Virgin Mary.
According to reports, the attacker, who arrived on a bike without a helmet, hurled a brick into the church, shattering a window. The brick struck and damaged the statue inside. CCTV footage of the incident is currently being examined by the police.
Despite the severity of the attack, church authorities have stated that they are not planning to file a formal complaint at this stage. However, local residents have expressed concern over the incident, calling for stricter security measures to prevent such acts of vandalism in places of worship.
The incident has raised alarm among the Christian community and human rights groups, who see it as part of a worrying trend of targeted attacks on religious minorities in the country.
