Aligarh: The Stillbirth Society of India (SBSI), founded by Prof Tamkin Khan, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University unveiled the Hyderabad Declaration, a collaborative effort made after discussions with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and international organisations including UNICEF, WHO and UNFPA, emphasising actionable strategies for reducing stillbirths nationwide.
Prof Khan said that the above declaration was unveiled during the second Annual Conference of the Society, held at the Park Hotel, Hyderabad, which brought together 296 delegates and 43 faculty members, including international expert Dr. Jason Gardosi, representatives from the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, and FOGSI, and the bereaved parents.
She said that the conference included an impactful workshop on bereavement counselling, led by her, which provided strategies for compassionate care and conducted a panel on “Unexplained Stillbirth” and strategies to meet the national target of less than 10 stillbirths per 1,000 births by 2030.
The conference showcased research on stillbirth prevention with oral and poster presentations and a panel discussion, “Women’s Voices,” discussing poignant stories of loss, fostering solidarity with the bereaved families and highlighting the urgency of action, she added.
